Most Anticipated Movies of 2010

If you love going to the movies like I do, then you know that 2010 hasn’t been a great year so far. Iron Man 2 was entertaining, but it didn’t live up to the expectations set by the first. Shrek 4′s box office tallies suggest that people are getting tired of the green ogre and want him put to rest. Prince of Persia was a bust by Jerry Bruckheimer Standards.

That is not to say there are not good movies coming out this year. The summer and Christmas seasons have some good ones to look forward to.

I am a big science fiction guy. Because of this, the new movie Splice, about a team of scientists who play God by creating a new species by combining human and animal DNA, is right up my alley. It stars Adrien Brody and was released this week.

With the potential to be the biggest Pixar success yet, Toy Story 3 is coming out this summer. The original Toy Story was the first CG animated movie of its kind and Pixar has been churning out classics ever since. You know if they took this long to make it, that it will be great.

My most anticipated movie of 2010 is Inception. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon Levitt and is a psychological thriller about stealining information from peoples dreams. The trailers have been vague in typical Christopher Nolan fashion but Inception is sure to be amazing.

If you are not familiar with Christopher Nolan’s work, you should be. Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight are all amongst my favorite films and at this point, I trust the guy with any script, as does Hollywood.

Because the trailers have looked so great, I am willing to give M. Night Shymalan one more chance with The Last Airbender. Based on a Nickelodeon show, the movie is about a boy who must use his ability to control all elements in order to save mankind from evil.

I think Cyrus is another movie to look out for. It is a dark comedy starring Jonah Hill, John C. Reilly and Katherine Keener and has received rave reviews at film festivals this year.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The Twilight phenomenon continues with the movie Eclipse. Gossip about it is prevalent on Twitter and all the social media channels. Articles abound in magazines, ezines and television talk shows. A cast member, Robert Pattinson talks in riddles when he appears on one of the many talk shows and during interviews. It is easy to imagine the Twilight star, Robert Pattinson being followed down the street by a line of young girls and women. He seems to be getting the most exposure as a celebrity. His character, Edward Cullen, gets more attention than the Royals in UK and President Obama in the US. The public can’t get enough of him.

Now this may or may not be a one-pair prank, but his handsome face is plastered on the front of a pair of panties. There are many jokes about these garments. There are just as many girls wanting to know where they can buy a pair. Some lines are not meant to be crossed. This is one of them. On February 21, Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame won the Orange Rising Star award at the British Academy Awards. When she received it in London, guess who was in the audience to cheer her on? Although the hot couple didn’t arrive at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden together, they both arrived to the delight of all those lined up alongside the red carpet.

The beautiful Kristen Stewart had eleven months off between the final shooting of Twilight in April of 2008, and the beginning of New Moon production. Then production of Eclipse started only seven weeks after New Moon was finished. When Kristen returned to playing Bella Swan in Eclipse, she said she had new purpose as the vampire-loving teenager. Kristen, AKA Bella said she wasn’t tortured as she was in New Moon. In Eclipse she’s more than just a teenager in love. She did not think the role of Bella in Eclipse was easy to play. She matures during the course of the movie including graduation and engagement to Edward Cullen (Pattinson of course).

For a time she was romantically inclined towards Taylor Lautner’s character, Jacob. She said that romantic role was hard to play. The reason was because she thinks of Lautner as a brother. Her love (as Bella) for Pattinson (as Cullen) draws her back. Her character really loves his character in the movie Eclipse. Her sisterly feelings for Jacob made it difficult to kiss him in the role of Bella. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the engagement of Edward and Bella. It turns out it was worth waiting for. The romantic scene will take place in Edward’s bedroom. It involves Bella, Edward and a four poster bed.

Pattinson didn’t have much to say about Eclipse, but he did relate a funny story about a fan who stalked him during filming. It was hilarious hearing the way he got rid of her. This woman was outside his hotel room every night lurking there and watching him. His solution was to take her out to dinner with him one evening. He got rid of her by boring her to death with complaints about every detail of his life. After that dinner she lost all interest and never came back.

I wonder what funny stories he will have when he hosts Saturday Night Live this season. His fans are certainly eager to hear his opinions on Eclipse, his beautiful co-star and the plot of the movie. Hopefully, he will not drift off into a soliloquy about the condition of his shoelaces or some equally unrelated topic.

Despicable Me

With the overflow of animated films and the surge of 3D movie watching in the current theatrical landscape, it would be extremely easy for a movie like Despicable Me to get lost in the pile.

The story follows the life of Gru (Steve Carell), a bitter-old man whose habitual oddities are only rivaled by his evil desires. Gru is a super villain, in opposition to the ever-popular super hero, and he’s not even a good one at that. His nemesis, a brainiac super villain named Vector (played by Jason Segel), currently holds the title of ‘World’s Top Super Villain’, a testament to perfect blend of intelligence and affinity to exact evil.

Being second place does not settle well with Gru so he devises a plan to steal the moon – a move that would collectively cause a tremendous amount of harm to the world while thrusting him to the number one position. Unfortunately, Gru meets a trio of little girls (Margo, Edith and Agnes) who show him something he’s not experienced before – love – and the old man’s heart begins to soften in a big-time way. The girl’s court him to be their ‘daddy’ and Gru is forced to look deep within – torn between the person he’s been and quite possibly, the person he was meant to become.

Despicable Me is a heart-warming tale of fun and adventure that the entire family will enjoy. The movie uses wit and humor at unlikely points to engage an audience of all ages, sending laughter throughout. The movie isn’t likely to surprise anyone as the predictability of an animation with an evil villain at center stage should suggest that he won’t be evil for long. The movie is capable of standing on it’s own but serves as more of a bridge to curb the appetites between the previous animated blockbuster and the next. That said, with the girls and Gru’s hilarious minions running rampant throughout, Despicable Me seems much less – well, despicable.

Given the success of the movie and the heartwarming tale that reveals the good in all of us, it is likely that fans, young and old, will be looking for Despicable Me Costumes. Now you can look like Gru in a Gru costume or mask designed for the movie’s top character or maybe you’d like to suit up as Vector in a Vector adult costume as you take the kids trick-or-treating this Halloween. Or maybe yet, your children would like to suit up as a minion or maybe in an Agnes costume. If so, all of these costumes are available this Halloween.

Somebody, somewhere once said that the human mind is like a maze. That saying became a cliche over time; and that maze theme has been used in various art forms an infinite number of times- and the latest to join the list, in the feature films category, would be "Inception".

Eagerly anticipated by fans of Christopher Nolan, who has earlier directed such overwhelming films like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, "Inception" brings together a cast of Oscar-winning actor Leonardo diCaprio, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Ken Wantabe, Michael Caine and others. The film releases in IMAX and regular theaters on July 16th, 2010.

Warner Brothers released the first official poster on December 16th 2009. It was apparently nothing but an aerial view of a maze of buildings that formed the word "Inception" in all caps. The second poster, which shows bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the posters of "The Dark Knight" showed Leonardo diCaprio with his back to the camera, dressed in a formal suit and standing in knee-high water with some sort of a weapon in his right hand. It was revealed on December 22nd. The third poster came out as recently as April 29th. It shows some of the most important characters standing on what looks like just another wide avenue framed on both sides by buildings- except that this particular avenue stretches on in the background, and not horizontally, but vertically. Plus, the characters carry sophisticated weapons.

Other promotional activities undertaken by Warner Brothers included the screening of the official first, second, and third trailers for the film before screenings of Inglorious Basterds (August ’09), Sherlock Holmes (December ’09) and Iron Man 2 respectively.

Christopher Nolan has personally written the plot of the movie and adapted it into a screenplay. Throughout the making of the film, and even in its promos, an unprecedented amount of secrecy was employed, and all that was known about the plot was that it was
a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind".

Mystified, Daniel learns that Mr. Miyagi is a martial arts expert. He begs to become an understudy, and Mr. Miyagi reluctantly agrees.

Following several weeks of training and conditioning which Daniel doesn’t understand (waxing cars and painting houses), he’s ready to quit. Iron Man 2

If you are like me, May 7, 2010 is a date which is etched into your brain and you just cannot wait for that month to come around. That’s because on that date, the new Iron Man movie is coming to theaters. However, if you can’t wait until then to see Iron Man 2, you can check out the new Iron Man 2 Movie Trailer right now. The effects are awesome and it looks like it’s going to be another blockbuster film.

As you may remember, at the end of the last movie, Tony Stark revealed himself before a press conference to be Ironman. The cat was let out of the bag and now he’s off saving the world. The hints we’re getting from the new trailer include magazine headlines informing us that Stark wants to bring peace to the world and a Senate hearing where Stark refuses to turn over the Iron Man suit to the American Government. However, he does tell the assembled crowd that he has privatized world peace.

What’s especially great to see is Robert Downey Jr. offering his usual perspective on the whole subject of being Iron Man. He’s back to his carefree, go lucky self and is surrounded by beautiful babes in what appears to be an Iron Man benefit concert.

Of course the movie wouldn’t be complete without a new villain and true to form, the new Ironman 2 movie trailer shows us that they’ve got a doozy for us this time. Whiplash, apparently given that name because he has whips to lash people with and not because he was in a car accident, will be facing off against Stark in this new installment of the franchise.

There isn’t a whole lot of information about the details, however the trailer does show us the fearless Iron Man battling Whiplash (played by Mickey Rourke by the way) and causing all kinds of great mayhem, including exploding airplanes and cars.

One interesting feature that I saw in the new film was when Tony, as IronMan is surrounded by what seems to be a whole army of Iron Men. It remains to be seen what that’s supposed to be about. There isn’t a whole lot being told regarding exact plot details.

The only official info I found was that Scarlet Johansson will be playing Black Widow, Stark’s assistant who is also a spy and that Pepper Potts has now taken over as the CEO of Stark Industries.

Clash of The Titans

BOTTOM LINE: Buried underneath the mechanical and arbitrary special effects sequences lies some resemblance to a good story, but not even a valiant attempt by an excellent cast can rescue this film from the utter bore that it is.

THE GOOD: The original "Clash Of The Titans" is considered an 80s classic and featured some of the great work of special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen. This modern update of the film seeks to use the latest in digital technology to recreate the Greek myths and in many respects, the visuals are quite stunning, particularly Mount Olympus, the haven of the Gods. Sam Worthington plays Perseus, the son of God Zeus (Liam Neeson), who finds himself on a journey to save the city of Argos from the monster the Kraken before the gods unleash it on humans for their failure to worship the gods. With this somewhat simple setup, director Louis Leterrier cuts loose with the computer work to create some visually impressive scenes. In many respects, these visuals at least transport you to this mythical time. The cast Leterrier has assembled is first rate, with Sam Worthington lending some much needed depth to his character, as does Liam Neeson in the role of Zeus. Ralph Fiennes looks predictably creepy throughout as the lord of the underworld, and ex-James Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen plays a very good soldier supporting Perseus. "Clash Of The Titans" is visually engaging, and has some interesting points to it.

THE BAD: Strip away the visuals and you have all the usual problems of a barely thought out Hollywood blockbuster. The script and subsequent direction do not give you a dramatic point of entry in to this story. Everything seems arbitrary. We have to accept that the humans have good reason to defy the gods. We have to accept that Perseus is hell bent on avenging his family’s death, despite the clunky and all to brief setup with his family. Despite all the impossible dangers the characters face, you never get the feeling they are in any real danger, and are far from surprised when Perseus in particular always comes out on top in any given situation. The amazing cast is dramatically under-utilised; it is quite amazing that they got so many good actors together and did nothing with them. Liam Neeson looks good in his shining robes, but is not given anything to do. Ralph Fiennes looks like he is repeating his performance from the Harry Potter films, and Sam Worthington really looks like he is trying hard to give dimension to his one-dimensionally written character. All of this combined makes the experience of watching this film rather dull and boring; a go-through-the-motions experience that barely registers a heart-beat. One other thing: do not go to see this film in 3D. The last minute decision by the producers to convert it from its original 2D has yielded some shoddy, and sometimes barely noticeable results, and is definitely not worth the inflated ticket price.

How To Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon is a 3D animated movie produced by Dreamworks, the creators of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. Out on 26th March 2010 the film will be released in 3D as well as traditional cinemas.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Cressida Cowell, a British Author, who has also written seven other books in the series. The plot centers around a young teenager by the name of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, who lives on the island of Berk in the North Sea but is anything like his fellow pillagers. His father is the village chief and is in charge of keeping the village safe from the local Dragons who regularly pick off stray sheep and set fire to houses.

Hiccup’s strength lies in his intellect and his smart mind rather than his demure physique and his occasional bouts of wit alienate most of the tribe though he desperately wishes to be included in their dragon hunts. Hiccup is finally selected with other young teens to undertake Dragon Training but instead of relying on brawn invents a dragon catching machine which manages to down a young dragon. Once up close with the dragon, Hiccup finds he is unable to kill the beast, eventually befriending the animal and naming it Toothless. As you can imagine, this does not go down well with the rest of the tribe.

Cressida Cowell’s book was a tremendous success with both kids and critics and while the film seems to deviate from the book in several areas the humorous feeling of the book remains. Apparently for the first half of production the film did in fact follow the book closely but then changes were made half way through to reflect the final rendition of the film. Dreamworks had a major success with 2008′s beautiful production Kung Fu Panda and the look of How To Train Your Dragon is similarly spectacular. Hopefully the production "hiccups" will not affect the flow of the story.

How To Train Your Dragon opens in cinemas 26th March 2010 and stars the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Gerard Butler, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Craig Ferguson.

You have probably seen at least one of the Shrek movies (there are three until now). Each one of these movies has been a success and this is why they are making a fourth one. Unfortunately, Shrek Forever After is also going to be the last installment in the series. No more Shrek movies after this one.

You can watch Shrek Forever After movie online trailers to get a picture of what is going to happen in this next movie. Shrek is sent to a nightmare where all he knows to be normal is upside down. The kingdom of Far Far Away is destroyed, ogres are being hunted and his friends don’t know who he is. His wife, Fiona, doesn’t know Shrek either. So, this movie will be great, because all the known and loved characters are there, but with a twist.

Watch Shrek Forever After movie online trailer on the official web site created for the movie. This is also packed with updated information about Shrek Forever After, you will find a picture gallery and a video section with all the trailers that have been released. The site also contains a game and loads of other interesting stuff, so make sure to visit it.

Forever After has the feel of the other movies, at least from what I could see in the trailers. You can watch Shrek Forever After movie online trailers almost everywhere, just to get a picture. Just look for that and you will surely find it. You will see that every character is there, as we know them, but are changed a bit to keep things interesting. I love the fact that Donkey is know dirtier and looks a lot older, Puss has increased in weight a bit, to say the least, and Shrek has to adapt to all this. I am expecting a great movie.

Rating: PG (for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar)

Totally formula, completely politically corrected, but it’ll dazzle you with the supercharged power of special effects.

In terms of pure entertainment value, by the sheer brute force of computer effects, "Alice in Wonderland" will not leave you indifferent, especially not in 3-D. And for sure, Johnny Depp’s wonderfully imaginative interpretations are good for a major draw.

But in story hooks, this is very orthodox stuff. That is, orthodox for the last 20 years in which filmmakers pay slavish tribute to the demands of female empowerment at the expense of old-timey whimsy and waggery. In particular, it seems that a fairy tale can’t be told anymore in the spirit in which it was written. Hey, I’m all for female equality everywhere but when it changes the whole sense of a classic story — no. Can you imagine, say, polically correcting a Jane Austen story? No? Then why a fable? Besides that, this film follows along the usual route to a grand, special effects-driven finale designed for marketing videogames soon to come.

Here then we are treated, or bludgeoned, with one obligatory scene after the next of Alice confronting and mowing down one Victorian value after the next, leaving the magic of the Lewis Carroll classic in the dust. Alice, unlike in the original tale, is in complete charge of everybody and everything. And with special effects.

Granted, the film does preserve to some degree various charming critters and glib dialogue. And visual surprises are many. Your head is zipped around adroitly by the well-established Tim Burton genius. The scene designs are as extravagant as they are vibrant. You can legitimately love ‘em. And Alice’s experiences are indeed wondrous to behold.

The 1865 Lewis Carroll classic has now been adapted to grown-up Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) as now a 19-year-old bride-to-be. So this is her second trip to the strange world beneath the earth’s surface. It’s motivated by her being driven to distraction at a totally boring engagement party, not to say a futile proposal by a lad from the aristocracy, moving her to dive into the same magical rabbit hole of her years of yore.

She’ll meet again with the English white rabbitt (Michael Sheen) as she finds all of her old pals and a few new: the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) who’s trying to hide from his past and who’s afflicted with mercury poisoning and a troubled past. Then come the zany twins Tweedledum and Tweedledee (Matt Lucas), the infamously frustrating Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) who’s blessed with a spinning head, then the frightening Jabberwocky ( Christopher Lee), then Bayard the Bloodhound (Timothy Spall), the Dormouse (Barbara Windsor), the March Hare (Paul Whitehouse), the villainous Knave of Hearts (Crispin Glover), Absolem the Caterpillar (Alan Rickman), the sweet but anxious White Queen (Anne Hathaway) and the oh-so-evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) who’s still doing "off with their heads!" and who abounds with zany situations and funny things to say.

And here’s Alice among them again, now of solid character and self-confidence, undaunted and forthright. The Red Queen, obviously will be her arch-enemy. The story will have Alice, of course, face a raging monster.
